School Security
My heart goes out to those who lost their lives on Monday as well as their families.
In light of the recent school shooting at Virginia Tech, I realized how low security is on college campuses. People can walk in and walk into any classroom they want, and the only classrooms that have locks on them are the labs where their only concern is stuff being taken out (dangerous chemicals, etc.).
The thing I don’t understand though is that elementary schools are safer than most colleges, where you need an ID badge of some kind to get through basically any door and almost all doors are kept locked when not being used.
Now I realize how tough it can be to secure a campus where 50,000 students are coming and going constantly. But there are still things that can be done, for instance most office building have better security where you have to scan your little badge for the little gates to open.
I don’t know, maybe they have tried it before and it just didn’t work, I just think something should be done.
